Design & Cost Estimator

We are seeking an experienced Design & Cost Estimator who can work closely with naval architecture colleagues to develop technical specifications for a major defense project. In this role, you will leverage your technical knowledge and industry experience to prepare accurate cost estimates and contribute to a competitive proposal for the client. Key Responsibilities:

• Preparing a comprehensive power balance and performing engineering calculations to support technical specifications.
• Gathering supplier quotations and evaluating proposals to inform your design choices and cost estimates.
• Identifying potential cost risks and drawing on lessons from previous projects.
• Closely aligning with project planning teams, recognizing how production sequences can impact cost structure.
• Analyzing customer specifications (RFQs) in collaboration with naval architects and proposal managers.
• Developing and detailing mechanical design concepts for ship systems.
• Drafting clear and structured technical specifications for procurement and production.
• Coordinating with suppliers to request and assess offers for ship equipment.
• Evaluating and documenting cost-related risks and proposing viable alternatives when needed.

• A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in a technical or maritime field.
• Willingness to work on-site at the project location in Schiedam when required.
• At least 5 years of experience in the maritime sector in roles such as cost estimator, planner, draftsman, or all-round engineer, with a broad understanding of ship systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong communication skills, with an analytical mindset and attention to detail.
• Full professional proficiency in Dutch is a must.
